CFCL AW24
I think something that we all forget and have to remember is most of these collections are meant to be seen up close. After all, they're meant to be worn, right? CFCL has always done wonderful work with their textiles and this season they have played off the versatility of knitwear with their collection theme, Knit-ware: Cadence.
But before we get into the technicalities of the wonderful textiles, let me tell you a little bit about the feel of the show. The show starts off with a string quartet and experimental sounds were being played on violins. Initially it sounded like insects, but then it started to get a little creepy feeling. By the time the vocals came in I was properly a little freaked out. It sounded like a soundtrack to a horror movie. It was extremely eerie and intense. The vocals were more intense as a show went on and it really begged the question, what am I missing here? The clothing itself doesn't seem spooky or horror themed ...what will I see upon a closer look?
Volume eight centers around practical clothing, stripped of excessive ornamentation. It creates a rhythm that enriches daily lives. The collection goes from day to night, weekends to holidays with the focus on tension and relaxation. In knit clothing one feels gently supported throughout the day. Some of the notable textiles used are Acetate Milan, Mesh and Hypha.
In Acetate Milan, this sophisticated luster yields from a high gauge acetate of recycled polyester. It seamlessly transitions from casual every day wear to more formal occasions. As seen with the double breasted dinner jacket in a tan color and also in the flowing black apron dress with a train. Mesh is another texture that CFCL plays with this collection and is more of a sporty texture that is water repellent. It's functional but still elegant.
My personal favorite is the Hypha series. It's the finely knitted stripe that holds volume. It creates a three-dimensional shape and was used in the bomber jacket and tailored cocoon silhouettes the season. The CFCL collection felt like a reminder and an education for me. When you go from show to show you forget that you're supposed to actually feel the clothing and it was this show that brought my attention back to the textiles. It's the hidden half of the show that people don't usually see. So if given the chance, definitely book an appointment with a showroom for a second closer look. The intensity lies in the textiles. There is so much that could be felt but not seen, like when we're watching a horror movie.
