Ujoh SS25

Can I please be a Ujoh girl? Ujoh is like Japanese Celine, I don't know how else to describe it. What the Celine girl is in France is what the Ujoh girl is in Japan. I have been watching this brand for years now, and every season I am in complete awe. How can it be that I can see myself in every single one of these designs? In my personal life, I am not a formal dresser. I am usually in the American uniform of leggings and sweatshirts. But this collection made me want to do better. I want to be that Ujoh girl. I want to look elegant, I want to be graceful and exquisite. I want to look refined and aristocratic.

The Ujoh SS25 collection at Paris Fashion Week was nothing short of breathtaking. Designer Mitsuru Nishizaki has once again proven why Ujoh is a brand to watch, seamlessly blending Japanese precision with Parisian chic. The collection redefines tailored style in a light and structured way, focusing on cutting techniques that are uniquely Ujoh. Ujoh's approach to modern tailoring is a masterclass in balancing sharp craftsmanship with functionality. The collection features cut-off jackets that hug the body's contours, straight-cut jackets that exude sophistication, and wide-legged trousers paired with skirts sporting deep slits, all designed to create and allow for movement.

What truly sets this collection apart is its innovative reconstruction technique. Nishizaki adds elements to spaces created through subtraction in the cutting process, resulting in garments that are both visually intriguing and supremely wearable. In a brilliant move, Ujoh has addressed the need for adaptable fashion in a warming world. The SS25 collection offers layered silhouettes that marry style with practicality, perfect for navigating changing climates. The use of lightweight fabrics like matte organza and washed satin, treated with the traditional Japanese Shibori tie-dye technique, adds a touch of artisanal craftsmanship to the collection.

The color palette is a delightful mix of Ujoh's signature shades; sand beige and slate grey, punctuated with vibrant hues like leaf green, lilac, sky blue, and terracotta. These brighter colors represent a positive mindset, a refreshing take on spring/summer fashion. Geometric swirl prints add another layer of visual appeal, reminiscent of petrol spills on wet asphalt, a uniquely urban inspiration.

The Ujoh girl represents everything I aspire to be; elegant, refined, and effortlessly chic. This collection has reignited my passion for dressing and reminded me of the transformative power of beautifully crafted clothing. Ujoh has once again proven that it's not just about creating clothes, but about crafting an identity, one that I'm more than ready to embrace.
