Rains AW24

Standing outside waiting for the Rains AW24 show, Coco and I were laughing at how many people kept cutting in front of us when I noticed a figure in my peripheral vision that had been lurking around for a few minutes. It was evident that he was not in line. Upon some conversation, he did not know that this was a fashion show and was very curious. I told him to just stick with me and let's see if we can get him in to see his first show. And this is how I adopted my first fashion orphan.

Inside the venue, there were a few screens and 3D printers set up. The printers were all busy printing little figurines. When the models started filing out for the presentation it made a lot more sense. Each model looked into a camera and the screens showed us what the camera saw. The 3D printers were set up to print each of their looks.

Rains is an outerwear lifestyle brand. It is a blend of conceptual and functional design with a strong urban identity. Its neo-Scandinavian aesthetic produces unisex collections and they had been famous for presenting interactive and unusual presentations throughout the seasons.

Visually this season we saw Rains depicted in an extremely glossy fashion. The models looked like water was continuously poured on them, their hair matted down by the wetness and their skin glossy with hydration. The textiles for this collection were also glossy; whereas SS24 was wet, AW24 was slick. The silhouettes of this collection were dramatic. Oversized puffers in a belted robe fit, long column coats reminiscent of sleeping bags and extremely warm looking puffer pants. Each piece was just dramatic enough for them to be deemed runway-worthy but not so fantastical that it would not fit in anyone's everyday closet. This collection brought winterized chic to another level.
