Frida
Ingie Paris SS20
This season, Ingie Paris brings to fruition a collection that is inspired by the strong freedom fighting women of Mexico. Female icon, political activist and visionary Frida Kahlo’s spirit can be sensed strongly in this collection. Ingie SS20 is adventurous, tenacious and seductive.
I walked into what seemed like a movie set. The runway was covered in beautiful sand and led up to the models’ entryway which was adorned with various cacti and desert foliage. I took my seat and wondered how I was going to get a good shot with a packed house. The show started and a minute into the show I was captivated. Ruffles and layers of tulle were encased under leather harnesses. Corsets were paired with vibrant multi colored skirts. Everything seemed almost “too much” but if it were less the spirit would have been lost. It was truly a spectacular showcase of femininity.
Just when I thought it was too frothy something unexpectedly sexy and wild appeared. Leather suits shared the runway with long chiffon gowns that where both angelic and undoubtedly devilish. Silhouettes from the freedom fighting days of the Mexican revolution were presented in sheer tulle. Extravagant accessories adorned each look and complimented the ensembles well. There was even a model that looked exactly like Martha Plimpton. This show had it all, it was unapologetically fierce.
