Let's Play Dress Up
Mashama Paris Fashion Week AW19
“What’s everyone crowding around?” Turns out it was Chinese pop singer Cyndi Wang and apparently designer Masha Ma has chosen her to be the Mashama girl this season. Born and raised in Beijing, Ma studied at Central Saint Martins in London before working for Alexander McQueen. She started her label, Mashama in 2011 and has risen to be one of the most prominent Chinese designers of our time.
Unexpected silhouettes mixed in style, texture and pattern make this collection impossible to categorize. Every ensemble looks like an “out” look but I can also see more eccentric souls just easily existing in it on a day to day basis. The abundance of character in these designs remind me of a little girl playing dress up. Every single item is exuberantly fabulous and it is all thrown together to articulate individuality in style. There is no holding back on the creativity.
The standout concept to me in this collection is a pink charmeuse slip dress that looks like the top part was undone, paired with a black lacy bralette. This undone seductress is ready to go out and for bed…and also ready for brunch the next morning. The versatility of these ensembles are really a testament to the well designed collection.
