Where am I Going?
Tartas Paris Fashion Week AW19
My arrival at a car park in the middle of Paris somewhere was unceremonious. I was checked in and directed upwards to the Tatras AW19 presentation. After rounding numerous concrete beams I turn the corner to find a large space with oversized mirrors hanging from the ceiling resembling a Fun House attraction. Photographers were huddled together in an area in front of the mirrors and delighted attendees took pictures that were no doubt meant for Instagram in the very near future. As I await the start of the presentation free flowing champagne made the wait even enjoyable. It was an unusual opportunity to be able to people watch before a show.
The fog machine starts up and the reality of smoke in mirrors started to form. One model came slowly out into the mirrors and others slowly followed. Eventually all the models were out and weaving in and out of the maze of mirrors in a surreal world that felt like a dream that is taking place in an imaginary metro station somewhere. Each commuter in high end outerwear that makes even those who don’t fare well in the cold want to explore extended amounts of time in it. This Japanese brand demonstrates minimalism with a westernized translation. One thing is clear. I will be needing ski lessons next season.
