Karim Adduchi Paris Fashion Week AW19

I have never met such a genuine person and brand as Karim Adduchi. The way his staff had welcomed us was beyond anything I have ever experienced before. This speaks volumes for the level of care and attention that Adduchi puts into his work. When we arrived at the Saint James Hotel we had no idea that we were in for such a refreshing look into a designer’s world. We had a very in depth guided tour of his collection by two of the most attentive and knowledgeable staff that I have ever encountered. You know that these two not only loved the collection, they loved the designer as well.

The collection was set up in a long room on mannequins, looking very much like a museum exhibit. This collection was perfect for a French manicured lady who lunches, but likes a bit of spice in her salad. Adduchi is a Moroccan born designer now based in Amsterdam and the root of his collection can be felt right away. Traditional Moroccan details find their way carefully into these pieces. Small touches such as triangular button details and woven patterned belts are worn with simple silhouettes. There are also pieces that explore Adduchi’s personal thought process as an artist. The one year cape where Adduchi draws a single face every day for a year on silk charmeuse tells a story of this designer’s creation and manifestation process. A seemingly simple black dress caught my eye. I could tell that the swirled embroidery was something special as it mesmerizingly covered the entire dress. Adduchi explained to me that in a conservative country like Morocco the women painstakingly embroider these textiles as a way of quiet communication and they find solace in the expression of their creations. I found this to be so beautiful and I hope that only someone who really understands that dress would have the right to own and wear it.
