Doublet AW24

“The Cure”

How many times have you been asked how you're doing and you answer with the robotic, "good" or "fine"? Why do we pretend that we're not bothered? Doublet asks the question, "Are you alright?" this season and underneath the superficial answer the real one lies in this collection. AW24 expresses the hurt and pain that we don't express and therefore fail to heal. The designer asks us to allow our frozen hearts to beat again little by little and to allow ourselves to feel the warmth of hope again. All wounds heal and one day we all recover. With effort of course.

This show to me seemed like everybody was waking up from a long slumber. Whether it be a physical rest or a mental one, there were themes of awakening in this collection. The accessories were gold foil pouches of protein powder bags and yoga mats. There was also a nod to different elements of horror from pop culture, from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to the monsters from "Stranger Things". I especially loved the oversized long hoodies that displayed the word "NAP" across the chest in a font that was reminiscent of the GAP. Another standout piece for me was the red varsity jacket with a Parisian pharmacy insignia in the back.

At the finale each of the models stretched and yawned before proceeding down the runway for one final pass. The message here was clear to me, the only way to get out of your head or to get out of a funk is to start moving or taking care of yourself. Maybe you dreamt of many horrors in the other dimensions but in this 3D world, you have to wake up in your own body so start creating a more awakened reality. So all in all, based on my own perceptions of the show and the ideas that the designer was trying to convey, I think we can come to the conclusion that it is up to us to want to heal. And the next time we say "I'm fine", hopefully we'll be telling the truth.
