Airei AW24

Paris in Winter isn't pleasant. This season I finally understood how Europeans in the last centuries died of consumption. The streets are cold and damp, buildings that are hundreds of years old drip dirt all over you and finding a warm place to escape the weather isn't as easy as it should be. I was overjoyed to enjoy a little respite at the Airei presentation. I did not expect, however, to walk right into the '80s Maxwell cassette ad. You know the one, maybe? A guy in sunglasses sitting slumped in a Corbusier chair being completely blown away by the stereo sound that's blasting at him. Although the vibe of this presentation is not the blasting rock music of the ad, it is a much more somber feeling. This man sits in a chair facing a small TV and reminisces about his son and basically how his entire life is going so far. The music is melancholy and you are invited to feel the passage of time with him.

The collection was lined up against a wall and guests were invited to try everything on and interact with the AW24 collection. Immediately my eye went to a few fuzzy angora sweaters, knitted in an open weave with dangling threads. The open weave knit is something that we have been seeing more and more of in the last few years. I personally have been completely obsessed about getting my hands on a little lavender open knit sweater.

There was a theme of hanging threads throughout the collection. We see it in the yarns of the sweaters, the stitching on the garments also had hanging threads as a design detail. There were also little "A" s stitched into the clothing with dangling threads. This small detail, signature if you will, was reminiscent of crafting. I really appreciated the small details in this collection. The pieces of this collection have undoubtedly utilitarian silhouettes. It is the fragile little details of the threads that remind us all that even the most durable of clothing is made of just threads.
