Ujoh AW23
The Ujoh show was supposed to be my grand finale show in Paris. This was my first French strike and I really didn't know what to expect. The train was not running in during the time that I needed to catch it so I started enroute on foot. It took me a lot longer to arrive at the Ujoh show than what Google Maps had estimated, just over an hour as it turned out. Unfortunately, this also meant I arrived right when the show started and I was denied entry.
Thankfully I was sent a show package and I opened it up with as much excitement and anticipation as I had for attending the show itself. I've been following Ujoh for a few seasons now and this designer has always gotten it right. Just the right amount of intricacy and the end result is magic. Although I cannot deem the missing of the show as one of my magical moments I can say that this AW23 collection is a magical collection.
Pinstriped suiting in somber colors of navy, brown, forest green and charcoal gray played off of busy mosaic prints in blues and greens. A beautiful dusty rose and merlot palette contributed a soft romantic edge to the otherwise solemn fall colors. There are so many beautiful details and layers that throw off the symmetry in an unexpectedly complex way. There were suit jackets wrapped around and fastened with a self belt, cascading asymmetrical handkerchief hems and large patch pockets with flaps. Layers were abundant in different textured fabrics. One of my favorite looks being a heavy navy jacket over a lightweight poplin ankle length shirt dress, worn with trousers of course. The feel of this collection is structured romance. Multifarious layers creating a beautiful sonnet for the wearer.
