Rokh SS24
One of the biggest trends of SS24 are grommet belts and grommets in general. This idea was sprinkled all over the Rokh collection. Designer Rok Hwang presents a thoughtful response to the ever evolving lifestyle that we all inhabit, capturing the core of timeless attire and celebrating the charm of dressing. He takes a deep dive into construction and morphs details of the garment. Initially, you won't notice it much but he does not just deconstruct and rearrange a trench coat, he completely changes the design through intricate details like a belt loop that that snakes down the center front. Rokh is also bringing back culottes, something we haven't seen successfully done in recent years. These over-sized trousers that are a few inches shorter than ankle length appeared in many forms of fine textiles. Hwang plays with proportions and experiments with cutouts, how extreme can these be before they are unrecognizable as the original garment? For instance, how deeply can one cut a cut out on both sides of a tweed hunting jacket before it no longer resembles the classic one that it was based on?
Asymmetry and balance was also in play with uneven buttons and dangling lace capes. Cropped jackets were paired with wide legged culottes and the grommeted belts attached to them winded around and down a body. An unexpected detail from the show is the way the models were holding their oversized hobo bags. Just all scrunched up and carried under the arm, like a half empty sack of groceries. I'm going to start holding all my bags that way. Who needs a strap anyway?
