Todas Las Primaveras De Un Invierno

Yolancris Paris Couture Week AW19

Vividly theatrical. Those are the words fit to describe this Spanish sister duo’s AW19/20 couture collection. Starting out as bridal designers, sisters Yolanda and Cristina have since branched out to eveningwear and outfitted celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, the Kardashians, Lady Gaga and Shakira. This collection titled, “Todas Las Primaveras De Un Invierno” presented a hidden, darkly romantic spring with a Gothic influence. Inspired by stories of Edgar Allan Poe and illustrations by Harry Clarke and Aubrey Beardsley the collection featured Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts style.

Melodramatic gowns sweeps through the corridors at the Spanish Embassy. Traditional Spanish influence was evident in the embellishments of the garments. There was nothing shy in this collection, only a bittersweet story of intrigue and romance. In my head I had re-imagined the story of Great Expectations set in Barcelona. With a main character so bewitchingly beautiful that her garments had to be just so to keep up with her allure. A sheer floral embroidered gown floated through the hallway, hauntingly graceful. My personal favorite was a lush garden green gown with white fringe, lace and embroidery. The ultimate high end bohemian look that I have aspired to possess my entire life. The free spirit trapped in propriety of society. This operatic collection moved me in a way that I have not expected and I long to live in that world.
