Floating Through Life

Yanina Couture Paris Couture Week AW19

I want to spend every day for the rest of my life in every one of these garments. This is the unicorn of couture collections. Completely couture yet completely approachable. Yulia Yanina is the Russian powerhouse behind the brand. Yanina’s designs are fit for royalty and have been appreciated by clients such as Emily Blunt, Gigi Hadid, Celine Dion and Kate Beckinsale. In this 14th Paris Couture show, Yulia Yanina explored what it means to be a woman, the essence of womanhood.

Upon arrival of the tented outdoor venue I couldn’t wait to see what Yanina had in store for this season. My philosophy in life has always been “…floating through life…” and this collection was a physical depiction of my inner most thought. Each one of these creations floated down the runway. Some with theatrical elements such as balloon sleeves and layered silks and some with floating satin, chiffon and tulle. Every look exuded femininity and a touch of innocence, almost Lolita-like. What would one expect from a collection inspired by Elizaveta Petrovna and Queen Victoria? One a Baroque loving empress who emulated luxury and grandeur, the other a puritan queen. These two vastly different ideals coexist spectacularly in Yanina’s collection. This collection depicts how a woman can both power through life and float through it. This binary existence is in all of us.
