Reemami SS24

"Vivid Skate" by Reema Al Banna

I never would have known it but this collection was inspired by surf skating. I'm so not even sure what it is but it is an activity that the designer, Reema Al Banna has been involved in for the last year and a half. This collection infuses something that is electrifying yet refined for the designer. The collection intertwines flowing elements, capturing the essence of movement within the sport and the protective gear that is associated with the sport. There are padded textures that reflect the protection and also prints that reflect movement.

I loved the way this designer used pattern in the textiles for this collection. I love the mixing of different patterns, it almost looks like upcycled thrift store finds. There is a vintage quality to these prints that almost feel homemade. The sophisticated way that these garments are pieced together though suggest otherwise. There were so many moving pieces within each garment, the idea of movement translates in that way. Cut outs and structures that move away from the body work together to create a very unique collection. There was one piece in particular that I really enjoyed because it looked like a bunch of neckties that were sewn together to make a bias cut dress. It was actually all pieces from the fabrics in the entire collection in one dress and it was pulled together by a black sash. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more pieces like this one pulling everything together. It was a curious collection and I wanted to see each of these individual ideas within this collection explored further.
