Beyond Black

Supriya Lele LFW SS20

Supriya Lele’s summer blacks are exactly what I have been waiting for. As a girl who always wears black; at the gym, out with friends and at functions, summer was always a difficult season to dress for me. The idea of black as not just a color but a style speaks directly to my fashion core. This was Supirya Lele’s debut runway show and I was taken aback by how unapologetically sensual the collection was. Known for extremely colorful collections, the use of black as an underlying theme was also a debut for Lele. She used it to “dirty” the vivid colors of the collection, giving them an air of mystery.

Silk chiffon wrapped around the form with long lingering ties and rouched bralettes layered over barely there dresses is so seductive it almost had me blushing. I needed every one of those pieces, it celebrated the female form to the fullest and has the transformative power to turn any wall flower into an empowered figure on the main stage. My personal favorite pairing was the black leather with the silk chiffon. This underutilized pairing of materials should really appear together more as they are an absolute power couple.

Supriya Lele designed this collection for herself more pointedly than ever before. This was her own story. Remnants of her Black Sabbath teen years and Indian heritage were evident in this collection. This truth was not told to deaf ears. I can’t wait to see where her next chapter takes her.
