Everyday Rituals

Henrik Vibskov AW20

Bathroom rituals, we all have one. Henrik Vibskov's inspiration comes from the deeply personal ritual of washing and getting ready for the day. This theme for his AW20 collection follows previous inspirations from everyday scenes such as the kitchen and the bedroom. When we prepare ourselves for the day, we all have certain rituals, it is a physical preparation as much as it is a mental one. Vibskov's collection reflects this ritual in various ways.

As the American Cathedral filled in in Paris, attendees were treated to a delightfully dreamlike bathroom. It felt as if we were in a dollhouse with handmade molded clay fixtures. The installation was surreal and the performers were all hidden until the show began. The music came on, each performer emerged, moving in their organically individualized routines; washing, reading, relaxing...

Models appeared in beautiful garments made of special jacquards inspired by vintage bathrooms. One print was a result of an experiment done in the studio in which flowers were photographed through a misty mirror. All fabrics and trims used in the collection were evaluated based on sustainability qualities and design choices were executed only second to sustainability. 95% of the AW20 season were made from sustainable materials. The outerwear for example was made in 100% recycled PET bottles and the wool was sourced from a farm in Norway where the sheep are free range.

This beautiful show with its whimsical setting was definitely a highlight of this Paris Men's Fashion Week. Imagination meets sustainability in Henrik Vibskov's "Please Remove Before Washing" collection.
