Maison Mihara Yasuhiro SS25
Karaoke Runway must be a thing every season from now on. When the show first began and my favorite song, "Lovely Day" came on I realized this was not the Bill Withers version. It sound a little off, so I just thought maybe it was a live band. I looked around for the musical act and it was just some guy standing up in the middle of a seated audience, singing karaoke. He carried on as the models came down one by one. After his song was done there was a transitional period and another familiar song came on. This time it was "Sweet Caroline" sung by a robust older gentleman who was obviously having the time of his life. Engaging the entire audience as he waved his arms up in the air and encouraging them to sing along. At this point I think half of us were so into this ambiance that we actually did start singing and enjoying ourselves and I almost forgot to take pictures and had to refocus.
These Japanese streetwear looks were fun, some even sexy and alluring and accessorized by oversized teddy bear accessories. The fabrications ranged from techwear to lurex, it all came together like a karaoke session. Seemingly without direction but a fantastically good time.
Finishing off the individual singers was a man in a sparkling gold jacket and shoulder length wavy hair, energetically performing "I Can't Help Myself" by The Four Tops. Now if you weren't singing along by this point then you just really did not know how to have any fun whatsoever. I found myself looking around to see who was enjoying this as much as I was. I sang along as I took videos and pictures of the ongoing show. The finale was a performance that was bad on purpose, of The Monkees' song, "Daydream Believer". Silver confetti was being thrown from the balcony and the entire audience was covered in glimmering silver. The show ended and I looked around almost expecting to high-five other audience members but they just kind of smiled and left. What a let down, Paris. The next time you go to a Maison Mihara Yasuhiro show, please bring the best energy possible because that's what the designer gives.
