Doublet SS25
Doublet is absolutely the most welcoming show of the Paris Fashion Weeks. Every time I go to a Doublet show it's always so inviting. There are always Japanese snacks available, made on site in a blue shingled booth. This season it was takoyaki, little round octopus pancakes.
It was a hot summer day and upon arrival guests were handed extra large fans, handmade by the Doublet team. The words were in Japanese and probably not understood by most of the attendees. But whatever they said, I'm sure it was encouraging. The music was a mixture of Japanese drums and electronic. The beat made me and a fellow attendee breakout in a short little dance prior to the show starting. We caught the eye of another attendee across the way and she did not find it amusing. Sometimes I wonder if most of these European attendees really understand the quirky humor in Japanese fashion.
The first look was a man dressed in a long black wool coat, with shiny leather pants, slicked back hair and sleek black sunglasses. He was also clutching a silver fuzzy pouch. The look definitely reminded me of Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, but humourous. The second look consisted of a similar silhouette but with a navy blue wool coat and charcoal gray pants. Silver fuzzy bag was still in tow and I decided I really needed one of those. Third look was a black suiting jumpsuit with golden fuzzy cuffs, resembling pom poms... Do you see where I'm going with this? As serious as some of these silhouettes were, as buttoned up as they could be they were always disrupted by some unconventional accessory or detail. This is the Doublet way, don't take yourself too seriously.
As the show went on these metallic pom-poms accompanied many of the looks. Oversized t-shirts and sweatshirts and airbrushed t-shirts reminiscent of the '90s tourist trap shops made appearances. There were many looks that went from casual, even sporty daywear into more office appropriate attire. My personal favorite of the season were these sweaters that said "I'm Obsessed". Because I completely am, with Doublet.
