Di Petsa AW24
This was not just any fashion show. This was a fashion performance of the goddesses. The Di Petsa AW24 collection was presented by designer, Dimitra Petsa, who narrates a poem in the beginning of the show and throughout the runway experience. The audience was invited to explore female archetypes in ancient Greek mythology and early Christianity through the Virgin Mary, the Madonna, the angel and the temptress. The entire runway space was cleansed with chimes, bells and incense and the procession of the goddesses began.
The signature look of Di Petsa has always been the wet look. Textiles are manipulated in such a way to look as if one had just emerged from the water. Starting with look number one, a goddess appears in a white long gown. She has seemingly materialized from the raging sea. The fabric clings to the body in the natural formation that wetness would have created.
The subsequent looks move from white to neutrals and then some darker blues and reds. All of the colors that could be found in and around the marine theme. As each of these goddesses came into view, they showed their personalities through the garments. The textiles look like magic. Not just your run of the mill stretch mesh, although I'm sure that was used. There were some wet look fabrics (perhaps lurex or latex) that truly brought this story to life. The ethereally regal procession continued for quite a few looks. At the finale, instead of just a final walk, the entire collection came out for one final performance.
This theatrical immersion into the world of Di Petsa was the magic that London Fashion Week needed. The mythology of the female archetypes were brought to reality for the AW24 season and it truly felt like a celebration for all of us in attendance.
