Paul Costelloe SS25

Paul Costelloe kicked off London Fashion Week SS25 with his “Le Ciel est Bleu (The Sky is Blue)” collection at the Waldorf Hilton. Celebrating his upcoming 80th birthday, Costelloe channeled Parisian charm, inspired by his own youthful days in the City of Light. The collection dazzled with soft pastel hues, ruffles, and playful silhouettes, perfect for any garden party or wedding. Highlights included romantic dresses, flirty skirts, and even a debut line of wedding gowns. With a spirit of joy and elegance, Costelloe continues to enchant fashion lovers everywhere. We had a chance to grab a few minutes with Mr. Costelloe and here’s what he said…

I felt the collection this season was very reminiscent of the 60s “Dolce Vita” theme, was this correct in assuming?

Absolutely right! Yes! Well, see, my initial [fashion] language. I initially entered into the Fashion world at the age of 20. It was the late 60s. London was wild and wonderful, the French were going couture and I and I was influenced by them. People like Patou, Ungaro, Courreges, Cardin… It was all very chic and tailored.

How did you come to choose the textiles for the collection?

I was a trade fair in Milan and I found this fabric company with these lovely colors. Just a simple pale yellow, pale, green pale blue, pale pink. I could work without buying any other fabrics, I could work with these! Then we did the prints, all those lovely soft color prints. That was William’s side of it and we kind of cooperated and we just produced these shapes. As you say, I don't know how it happened, but it was like my path came back to me. I just started to sketch. I sketch a lot, you have to sketch. I only realized last night when I was thinking about, what am I going to say? And you really hit that [Dolce Vita]. That's really interesting.

What advice would you give young designers today?

Don’t listen to your own press. Um, Uh, don't don't let your ego… follow your heart… tread carefully young man. And have a financial advisor that you trust. Doesn't need to be there seven days a week or five days but have the financial advisor that you trust.
