Anrealage AW24

"Object"

The year was 1984 and I was a kid with a beta tape in the player watching recordings of Doraemon with my cousins in an apartment in Taiwan. These cherished moments of my childhood live in a magic bubble in my memory. We were all so completely obsessed with this cartoon series, each episode stretched our imaginations. Doraemon is an alien cat-like creature that comes from outer space and helps out this neurotic nerdy kid with his school bullies and everyday life. He can pull anything out of this kangaroo like pouch and he would usually pull out a door, a portal into another world. This idea fascinated me as a kid.

When I heard that the Anrealage AW24 collection was based on Doraemon I was ecstatic. The presentation took place under a bridge along the Seine at Pont Alexandre III. I had no idea this space even existed and it felt like Paris opened a magic portal just for the show. When we walked into the darkened space a remix of the Doraemon theme song played and large objects/shapes danced along. Those shapes were dressed up as the different characters in the series. Next to the shapes stood models in garments that were designed in a collaboration with Reebok. This season the designs themselves did not show any color changing elements. The science behind this collection was in the production.

Using FOREARTH technology it was possible for the design team to print on and dry the textile in just two easy steps using one machine. This digital dye printing machine can print on a wide range of fabrics such as cotton, silk, polyester and nylon. The aim of this technology is to use next to zero water and to lower logistic costs as well as production waste. As we have learned over the last decade, fashion is one of the top three largest environmental threats, polluting to toxicity the water supply around the world. Communities that are close to textile plants have to live with not only major textile and dye waste but life-threatening illnesses such as cancer. Anrelage continues to be a pioneer in textile technology and a leader in sustainable creativity. Looks like Doraemon opened a portal to a cleaner future for fashion this time, let's step through it.
