"Twinking Unknowns"

Artist Adam Handler

The Cohle Gallery is pleased to present "Twinkling Unknows", the first solo exhibition in France of the contemporary New York artist Adam Handler. This exhibition continues the artist's nostalgic journey with the subjects of the woman and the ghost. The relationship between feminine energies and its relationship with the other worldly or divine has always been a personal topic of intrigue for myself. I was delighted to discover that an artist has depicted this subject matter in a way that is both seemingly primitive and boldly pure. Seeing it through the eyes of an innocent.

Adam Handler (1986) was born in Queens NY and raised on Long Island. As a child and teenager, he spent countless hours in his grandparents' framing shop in New York City. There, his passion for art grew and it was at the age of 18 that it became inevitable that he too would discover its many possibilities. He left to study drawing in Italy and graduated from Purchase College in New York in 2008 with a major in art history.

"Twinkling Unknowns" consists of cosmic and celestial backgrounds which blur the line between reality, walking the thin line between a fairy tale and a nightmare. Handler's work has always hovered in the uncertain space between sweetness and sadness, and longing for yesterday or tomorrow. Without time or emotion is the same as within all time and all emotion. Being fluid in the cosmos.

With phrases such as "I miss you" or "Sorry" appearing periodically in the works, it allows the viewer to have a vague point of reference on the meaning of the work, but more importantly offers the viewer their own interpretation of the work based on their own life experiences.

Adam Handler's faux-naïve style, his bright colors, are intended to convey emotions to the viewer and not to lead to a reflection on the work. Through his portraits of women, he reforms the standards of beauty, returning to something more primitive. In his work, he prepares the compositions of the canvases beforehand but leaves a lot to improvisation when painting.

Adam Handler has had́ solo exhibitions in the United States. His work has also been widely exhibited in major contemporary art fairs as well as in numerous exhibitions in the United States, Canada, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. He is represented in France by Cohle Gallery. The exhibit will run from April 7 to 24 at 17 Rue Victor Massé 75009 Paris.
